Pocket Guide: Klaipeda, Lithuania

What's good about it? Klaipeda, Lithuania's third-largest city, is a historic port on the Curonian coast. It is divided by the Dane River. The old town on the left bank features cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, while the new town on the other side is home to industrial sites, amid art and cultural venues.
Best for: Explore the highlights of Klaipeda on a walking tour of its charming old town and visit the Klaipeda Castle Museum. In Theatre Square, admire the Taravos Anike sculpture, dedicated to the poet Simon Dach. Discover other folklore icons including the Golden Mouse and Cat Klaipedis - the cat with a gentleman's face. Pause for refreshments and savour a piece of tinginys, a local specialty also known as "lazy cake".
Best time to visit: From June to August for mild and pleasant weather and longer daylight hours.
