Japan and Fiji are not the only destinations that Australians are hitting in big numbers. The tropical haven of New Caledonia in the South Pacific is breaking records, too. According to new data released by the French territory's government, more than 30,000 people from Australia holidayed there in 2023 - up by 18.5 per cent in 2019.

And if you're planning to head there this year, here's a glamorous hotel you should put on your radar: set to open in June on a sandy stretch on an outer island of New Caledonia, the InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort is already accepting bookings. ihg.com

Cruising for all

Meanwhile, cruising is breaking records, too. And it doesn't matter whether you're a family traveller, a solo explorer or just can't live without luxury, the cruise industry has something for everyone, starting with the announcement that - after a successful inaugural season - Disney Cruise Line is returning to Australia and New Zealand later this year with a range of kid-friendly voyages. Scenic, meanwhile, has its eyes set on the solo travel market, one of the fastest growing sectors, with a promo that allows cruisers to book itineraries, without single supplement fees. For the ultimate indulgence, though, keep your eyes peeled for andBeyond's gleaming expedition yacht Galapagos Explorer, which will embark on its maiden voyage in June this year, with just six suites and cabins. disneycruise.disney.go.com; scenic.com.au; andbeyond.com
