Before starting your great European adventure, let's clarify this: not all Europe is super cold. Countries like Italy and France have hot summers averaging 25 degrees Celsius.

Even notoriously cold countries like Denmark and Norway have enjoyable summer weather, though it's not comparable to a Marble Bar summer.

Provence, France

Provence is a must-see on your itinerary no matter the season; visiting the region is like exploring a country within a country. Located on the Mediterranean Sea and bordering Italy, the area has endless vineyards and beautiful olive groves. You can village hop (yes, it's a thing) for a comprehensive and enriching cultural experience.

Bonnieux is home to the 12th century Vieille Eglise (Old Church) and the New Church built in 1870. The latter houses paintings depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ.

The village of Lacoste has enchanting archaeology, from the churches to the castle and well-preserved 16th-century houses. Prepare yourself for a long walk, but the view from the castle in Lacoste is worth every step. Even though these are villages, they aren't that remote, meaning if you have an eSim for Europe travel, you will never lose your phone signal.

Mykonos, Greece

Situated in the southernmost part of Europe, Mykonos, is a trendy holiday spot that attracts thousands of visitors during summer. It is also one of the pricier Greek islands to visit, so if you are on a tight budget, you might want to give it a miss.

The island is nicknamed the "Island of the Winds" because strong winds blow across it. These winds make the island less humid and the heat bearable.

There is so much to do in Mykonos you could find yourself overwhelmed; the attractions cater to everyone. If you love culture, there are museums and art galleries. You can even take a guided tour of Delos, the sacred island in Greek Mythology. Go shopping on Matogianni Street or rent a yacht and sail in luxury around the island or to others nearby.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Winter temperatures in Denmark can go below zero degrees Celsius, which can be a shock to most Aussies. Don't let the cold weather deter you though. Denmark has excellent tourist attractions and wonderful hidden gems for you to discover.

Copenhagen is brimming with attractions, historical sites and restaurants you cannot miss. In the trendy district of Refshaleen you can enjoy a sauna and warm hot tub in the winter months. In the summer, you can relax with a meal on the docks while watching the sunset.

Denmark has seven UNESCO Heritage Sites, one of them being the town of Christiansfeld; though not in Copenhagen, it's worth a detour. The city was built in 1773 and named after King Christian VII. It has incredible architecture that has been carefully restored over the years; it's a worthwhile stop for history, nature walks and delectable baked goods.
