A snapshot of the 2023 AFL grand final

* Result: Collingwood 12.18 (90) bt Brisbane 13.8 (86) in front of 100,024 fans at the MCG.

* The story: It was a true footy arm wrestle for four quarters with 10 lead changes. Collingwood's Nick Daicos and Bobby Hill kicked the first two goals of the game but Brisbane responded with two superb majors from Zac Bailey and another by Lincoln McCarthy. Jack Crisp slotted one after the siren to give Collingwood the halftime lead. The Magpies led by four points by third quarter time thanks to Scott Pendlebury who kicked the only goal for his side during the term. It went down to the wire but Collingwood held on to snatch their 16th VFL/AFL premiership flag.

* Key stat: Collingwood are now level with Essendon and Carlton on 16 VFL/AFL premierships

* Key moment: With five minutes to go, Charlie Cameron kicked his third goal of the match to put Brisbane back in the lead for the fourth time. But just two minutes later, Jordan De Goey replied with a goal of his own before Steele Sidebottom slotted another major to seal the win.

* Star player: Perhaps Collingwood's best off-season recruit, former GWS player Bobby Hill lit up the park with an electric performance that included a spectacular mark. The 23-year-old kicked a game-high four goals, racked 18 disposals and five tackles to earn his first Norm Smith Medal.

* Key quote: "We said at halftime what an incredible game it is. Brisbane were just unbelievable all day. They just kept coming at us. I'm lost for words" - Darcy Moore told the Seven Network after winning his first premiership as Collingwood captain.

* Injuries: Magpies defender Nathan Murphy was taken off the field near the end of the first quarter after a collision with Lincoln McCarthy with a concussion. Patrick Lipinski was subbed into the game for Murphy.
