A routine firearms training has ended in disaster after a Queensland police sergeant was shot at Childers south of Bundaberg.

The male instructor received a single gunshot wound to the calf following an accidental discharge by another officer during a live-fire training exercise, Queensland police said.
Queensland police confirmed the man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was in a stable condition.
Support was being provided to both officers and their colleagues and families.

"The North Coast Region will investigate the incident and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have been advised," police said.
Queensland police was contacted for comment but said there was no more information available.
