Anthony Albanese one of 2023's most influential figures

The magazine's annual list includes six categories: artists, icons, pioneers, titans and innovators.

Albanese's achievements were lauded by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who called the inner west local a "symbol of hope and inspiration".

"Progressives around the world are united in the idea that we should leave no one behind. The idea that no matter who you are or where you come from, you should have every chance to succeed in life," Mr Trudeau wrote.

"His government supports those who need it most, believes that we need to take ambitious climate action, and unwaveringly supports democracy in the face of unprecedented threat."

The last Australian prime minister to make the list was Kevin Rudd in 2008.

Albanese joins United States President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska in the list.

But not all Australians involved in Time's 2023 list shared Mr Trudeau's sentiment.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett spoke of Syrian competitive swimmers Sara and Yusma Mardini who sought refuge in Europe after fleeing Syria. The sister now campaign for human rights.

Ms Blanchett said the sisters' story showed a need for better refuge in Australia. It comes after the Albanese government has continued the Coalition's hard-line approach to asylum seekers.

"That story continues as both Yusra and Sara fiercely advocate for everyone's right to seek safety. Whoever. Wherever. Whenever," Ms Blanchett said.
