The escapee was caught on camera navigating traffic, trotting past shops and strolling through residential streets.
Born in 2021, the young male zebra named Sero, was eventually cornered in a narrow street by a combination of police, fire officials and zoo staff.
He was then anaesthetised, before being loaded onto the back of a pick-up truck and returned to his home at the Seoul Children's Grand Park Zoo, but not before a stampede of videos and images went viral online.
According to reports from Associated Press, the zebra was in a stable condition and was being monitored by veterinarians following his outing.
