Nail gun attack on M1 Motorway at Central Coast, man charged

A teenager travelling in a truck is accused of prowling along the M1 Motorway in the NSW Central Coast, and firing nails from a nail gun towards other vehicles.

The attacks occurred on Monday afternoon and they left two men in their 50s with shot wounds - one to his arm, the other to his head.

"A 57-year-old man, who was driving a white Mitsubishi sedan with the window down, reported to police that he was shot in the right arm with a nail projectile, as a white Mitsubishi truck passed him," NSW Police said in a statement.

"A short time later, a 52-year-old man, who was driving a grey Toyota RAV 4 in the vicinity of Ourimbah, reported to police he felt something impact the top of his head, which caused him to briefly lose control of his vehicle.

"He saw a male passenger in a white Mitsubishi truck leaning out of the truck, and allegedly fired further projectiles towards his vehicle, causing the passenger's side window to shatter."

About 4.30pm, after receiving information that the white Mitsubishi truck was continuing to travel north on the M1, police attended the Sparks Road commuter car park and located the vehicle.

As police were speaking with the occupants of the truck, a 19-year-old man fled from the vehicle and jumped over a wire fence.

"Police pursued the man on foot before arresting him a short time later. Police utilised capsicum spray during the arrest," officers said.

The teenager was charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence (two counts), assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company (two counts), malicious damage (two counts) and an outstanding warrant.

He was refused bail and will appear before Wyong Local Court on Tuesday, January 10.
