Something unexpected in the Newcastle airspace on New Year's Eve

WITH a couple of friends, I took in the 9pm New Year's Eve fireworks from a railway bridge at Carrington, in Newcastle in NSW's Hunter region, where a fair-sized crowd had converged to get a look at the festivities across the harbour.
