A video of a surfer wrestling a shark back into the ocean has gone viral.
The surfer, Paul Myles, spotted the hapless creature while paddling at a beach in Eastern View on Victoria's Great Ocean Road.
He attempted to retrieve the shark, pushing it back into the water with the end of his surfboard, but the attempt was overall unsuccessful, leading Mr Myles to eventually pick up the stranded shark.

Carrying it back into deeper waters, the shark can be seen thrashing against Mr Myles' saving mercy.
"I thought I'd get it out in the water a bit further out, see if it would swim out to sea but it didn't seem too well," Mr Myles told the ABC.
Weighing about 20 kilograms, it's is believed to be a small blue shark.

After 40 years surfing in the same spot, Mr Myles admitted it's rare to see sharks, especially in such shallow waters.
"I've never seen one that close to the beach, that's the important thing. I once saw one off the rocks about 20 years ago but that's enough I think," Mr Myles told the ABC.
