The Philippines has announced it will be reopening to tourists from February 10, nearly two years after its initial border closure due to the pandemic.
Travellers must be fully vaccinated and show proof of a negative result on a PCR test taken within 48 hours of their departing flight.
Philippine Airlines will operate flights to Manila from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, while Qantas will also be running daily flights from Sydney, starting March 27.
Filipino presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles said: “The tourism industry can now recover and it can contribute big to jobs, livelihoods and the country’s economic growth.”
The Philippines reopening represents the next step in Southeast Asia’s reconnection with Australian tourists. Thailand has already opened to tourists with certain restrictions and Bali may soon allow Australian visitors.
