Samaritans Christmas Lunch in Singleton is inclusive and organised specifically for those who may otherwise be unable to celebrate. This year a picnic concept has been created for Samaritans to deliver Christmas cheer. Just turn up on Christmas Day and collect a hamper, a picnic blanket and gifts for all ages to help you enjoy this year's festive season.
Handmade in the Hunter markets
December 27, 28 and 29: Sobels Wines, 5 Halls Road, Pokolbin. Time: 9am-3pm.
Discover the variety and quality of goods grown, made and crafted by Hunter Valley artisans at the Handmade in the Hunter Markets. These markets are held regularly in the picturesque gardens of award-winning Sobels Wines in Pokolbin. Stay up to date at: facebook.com/handmadehuntermarkets.
Aussie Ark summer open days
January 1-30: Aussie Ark, Tomalla Rd, Tomalla. Time: 11am-2pm daily. Cost: $35 per adult, $15 child, $29 concession, $60-$90 family.
Throughout the month of January, Aussie Ark will be open to the public daily from 11am-2pm with tours of the facility running at 11.30am and 12.45pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of Australia's most endangered species.
Create a worm farm
January 11: Muswellbrook Library. Time: 10.30am-12pm. Cost: Free but bookings required.
Join the Muswellbrook Library team to create your own worm farm and learn why they are good for the environment. This activity is open for children aged 6-12 years. Phone the library on 6543 1913 to book your spot.
Writers meeting
January 18: Muswellbrook Library. Time: 4pm-5pm.
Join the Upper Hunter Writers Collective at the Muswellbrook Library each month for motivation, support and feedback from others who have a passion for writing. This group will meet the third Tuesday of each month. Phone Muswellbrook Library on 6543 1913 to register your interest.

January 20: Denman Library. Time: 10.30am-12pm. Cost: Free but bookings required.
From wriggly worms to beautiful butterflies, create your very own interesting insect this fun filled craft morning. Learn about different insects and how they help around in your backyard. Check out the variety of books in the library to have a closer look at your favourite creepy crawlies. Open to ages 3-6 years. Call the library on 6547 2208 to book a spot.
