Although no golf was able to be played after recent flooding forced the closure of the golf course, attendees from businesses across the Upper Hunter came together to raise money for TransCare through a charity auction and to witness the handover of the keys to the new vehicle.
TransCare, a Scone-based not-for-profit organisation, provides transport services to vulnerable members of the Upper Hunter community, enabling them to attend medical appointments as far away as Newcastle and Tamworth.
Penelope Fenley, chairperson of the board of TransCare, thanked the sponsors in attendance for their donation of a new vehicle.
"Today, Bengalla and all you other sponsors have combined through fundraising efforts to purchase this car... for TransCare to enhance our provision of community transport across the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook Shires, " Ms Fenley said.
"The car, which will be known as Jessie, will be valued across our community and is a sign to our staff and our volunteers of the value placed by all our sponsors on our services.
"We thank Genelle Scott and the Bengalla team for their tireless efforts in ensuring this project's completion and all the sponsors who have enabled this to happen, we hope this partnership will continue to grow and flourish as we continue to improve the community services we provide."
Genelle Scott of Bengalla Mining said Friday's event was a "wonderful display of community spirit".
"Bengalla understand the importance of being able to provide a transport service in our local community and while Bengalla might have orchestrated the Bengalla Charity Golf Day Luncheon, without the generous support of all the sponsors involved we would not have been able to purchase this beautiful vehicle for TransCare to add to their transport fleet," Ms Scott said.
"It is amazing what we can achieve when we all work together towards a common goal."
