The operator of the power stations, AGL, said it had purchased the 'We Live Here' gift cards for its staff from Why Leave Town, an organisation which encourages Aussies to spend in their local communities.
AGL chief operating officer, Markus Brokhof, said the company's participation in the Why Leave Town program was a way of showing support for its employees and the Upper Hunter community this Christmas.
"We know businesses right across our region have had a challenging 18 months with the impacts of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns," Mr Brokhof said.
"We are proud to live and work in the communities of the Hunter and Singleton and are committed to supporting business recovery into the new year.
"As restrictions ease and we return to a level of normality, we want to ensure that our community benefits and that spending stays local."
The Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) said it was pleased to recognise the contribution made by AGL and its employees through its 'Making Muswellbrook' program.
"The last two years have been very tough on many local businesses and the injection into the local economy through the gift cards will provide a much-needed boost to those trying to rebuild from the recent lockdowns and restrictions," MCCI member services manager Wayne Toms said.
The 'Making Muswellbrook' program is an initiative of the MCCI that recognises individuals, businesses, groups and organisations for their part in making Muswellbrook a great place to call home, Mr Toms said.
