In response to the announcement of the positive case in Muswellbrook, Upper Hunter MLA Dave Layzell said on Facebook that the person has been in isolation with their household and based on current evidence there will be no venues of concern.
"There is no expectation of wider community transfer of infections but household contacts expect to test positive in coming days," Mr Layzell said.
"It is important we remain kind and compassionate to the person and their family. They need our community support.
"There were no rules broken that led to this case."
A spokesperson for HNE Health said the Muswellbrook case was still being investigated but confirmed it was considered a low risk to the community.
"We would still like to see testing numbers in the Muswellbrook region increase and urge residents with even the mildest symptoms, to please get a test," the spokesperson said.
A total of 18 cases were announced today in the Hunter New England (HNE) region, including one from Cessnock LGA and two from Maitland LGA.
