A 78th-minute own goal from Maximilian Bauer off a sharp low cross from Marco Richter settled the affair in the Olympic Stadium on Friday as Hertha were rewarded for an improved showing after a dull first half.
Furth grabbed the lead from a 57th-minute penalty by Branimir Hrgota but Hertha started their comeback four minutes later from newly-signed Dutch midfielder Jurgen Ekkelenkamp's header off a corner kick, less than two minutes after he'd come on for his debut.
"We made good substitutions and played a good second half. I am proud of our young team," Hertha coach Pal Dardai said. "Now we can work in peace. We want to garner more points."
Hertha rose into ninth position with six points from five games, while newly-promoted Furth remain winless in last place with one point. Hertha had won at the other newcomers, Bochum, a week ago.
