The Demons have been out of quarantine since last weekend, and reports have emerged of the players being told to be back in their Joondalup accommodation by 9pm each night.

But Chaplin said that was merely a "loose" time frame, with the focus being on players returning at a reasonable hour.

"The nine o'clock thing has been blown out of proportion," Chaplin said.

"We're not sitting there with clipboards ticking them off.

"This is a pretty important moment for the club to be in, and the nine o'clock thing was a real loose thing.

"We're playing in the grand final and we want to give ourselves every opportunity to win that."

Only a select number of Demons players will attend Sunday night's Brownlow medal count.

Chaplin said the rest will sit together at their Joondalup resort to watch it.

The Demons have two genuine Brownlow fancies in the form of Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca, with ruckman Max Gawn considered an outside chance.

Meanwhile, Chaplin says recently-retired Demons midfielder Nathan Jones will continue playing a role within the group leading up to the AFL's decider.

Jones flew home to Melbourne to be present for the birth of his twins.

His departure from Perth meant he was ineligible to return for the grand final due to border restrictions, and he has since announced his retirement.

Although the 302-game veteran and former skipper is no longer with the group in person, he continues to help guide some of the club's younger players.

"Without a doubt there's going to be some guys leaning on him for experience," Chaplin said.

"We've got a lot of younger guys in our team who are ... in their first final series. He's been fantastic for that group and he'll continue to be that.

"Hopefully we can Zoom him in at eight o'clock on Saturday night next week and we've won the thing, and he can really enjoy it with us.

"He's been a stalwart at this club who is going to leave a legacy, not just for the next two to three years, but for a long time down the track."
