HLLS is encouraging families to jump online and visit its Adventures at Your Place portal, for free activities focusing on enjoying nature in your own backyard.
The Schools Education Officer for Hunter Local Land Services, Jane Lloyd-Jones said the simple activities focus on getting children into their backyard and local environments to learn about their piece of the landscape puzzle.
"The Adventures at Your Place activities were developed during the NSW lockdown last year, and have proven popular with schools and families," said Ms Lloyd-Jones.
"With the current restrictions the activities provide the perfect tool to engage children in learning about their local environment while having plenty of fun.
"Kids can do a backyard bird count, learn about creepy crawlies, check the health of their local waterways, investigate the importance of pollinators, or do a soil test."

There are 18 activities already on the site, that can all be done safely, from home or during COVID safe exercise or outdoor activity time.
It can even be used during homeschooling, as the activities support the NSW syllabus outcomes including geography, science, English, visual arts and even maths.
"We love getting feedback from our families as well, you can post your work directly on the page and share your creations and results with fellow nature lovers," said Ms Lloyd-Jones.
"Caring for our communities, catchments and environment is so important, and now more than ever it is wonderful to see families engaging with their local landscapes and being able to express themselves and spend time in nature.
"Our future landcarers are learning every day and we want to inspire them to love the land and about nature around them from an early age."
