Muswellbrook women encouraged to run for council

According to Muswellbrook Council, women represent less than a third of all councillors and mayors serving on the 128 councils in NSW.

In a move to ensure that it accurately reflects the community it serves, the council will host a forum for women to demystify the process of running for local government in the lead up to the election on September 4, 2021.

The forum will be held in the Atherstone Room of the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music on Bridge Street, Muswellbrook from 4pm to 6.30pm on Friday, July 2.

Local councils are the level of government closest to the community. They provide key infrastructure, facilities and services to local residents and are integral to improving the lifestyle and amenity of local communities.

"Councillors represent their local community's needs, wants and aspirations and make important decisions on behalf of their local community" the Muswellbrook Shire Council website stated. You don't need any formal qualifications and you will receive training, support, expenses and fees if you are elected."
