* The first doses of the AstraZeneca virus vaccines are ready to be administered, as leaders prepare for their next major meeting.

* Chief nurse Alison McMillan confirmed South Australia and Western Australia would be the first states to get that particular vaccine, from Friday.

* The rollout has so far involved the Pfizer vaccine, with about 61,000 doses administered.

* Another two people have tested positive for the Russian strain of COVID-19 amid an outbreak on a flight to Brisbane, with another 72 quarantine guests to be tested for the virus.

* Queensland authorities are concerned a COVID-19 "superspreader" may have passed on the virus to people on the flight and possibly in hotel quarantine.

* Six people aboard the flight which arrived from Qatar on February 17 have so far tested positive to the virus.

* Another five new cases - workers from a Papua New Guinea mine - were reported in Queensland quarantine hotels on Thursday.

* International flights into Victoria, paused during last month's five-day lockdown, remain on hold, with the premier unable to say when they will resume.

* Meanwhile, senior government officials have told a parliamentary inquiry the next four to eight weeks are "critical" for the airline sector.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia recorded no new locally acquired cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday. There were 11 new cases in returned travellers in hotel quarantine: four in NSW and seven in Queensland.

* The national death toll is 909: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3 (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
