The arrival of Kohli's side at the SCG will bring sighs of relief among Cricket Australia bigwigs, who had feared a $300 million drop in broadcast revenue when the tour was in doubt because of COVID-19.

There will likely be sighs of a different variety from bowlers and fielders when the world's top-ranked batsman resumes his running battle with Australia, having repeatedly produced his best against India's rivals.

Kohli was named man of the series earlier this year, when Australia had a short ODI tour in India.

Finch, who spent his recent Indian Premier League campaign training and playing alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Kohli, hasn't unveiled any obvious weaknesses.

"If you look at his record it's second to none. It really is remarkable," Finch said.

"What we have to keep in mind is that we have to keep looking to get him out.

"When you go away from that and you look to contain players, you can miss a trick.

"He's probably the best one-day player of all time, so it's about sticking to our plans and being really committed."

Kohli's record in every format is impressive but his 50-over numbers, headlined by a batting average of 59.33, are particularly ridiculous.

It is why, coupled with his unique standing in the sport and billions of supporters, that Kohli has featured in more marketing material for this summer than most of Australia's players.

Kohli's squad plus Finch and other Australian IPL stars were released from quarantine on Thursday afternoon, ending a far-from-ideal preparation for the series.

Finch suggested the past fortnight had been '"OK", admitting Australia will need to balance a quest for welfare and wickets in coming weeks.

"We know in the current environment, with guys being away for so long and away from families in hubs, bubbles and quarantine, that it's really important to look after people's mental health," Australia's skipper said.

"Whether that's giving them a week or a couple of days off, just to get home.

"It's going to be crucial and it'll be an individual, case by case thing."

Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, who have been living out of hotel rooms since August, are both expected to be rested at some point of the limited-overs leg of India's tour.

"Rotation of bowlers will come down to how they're feeling personally, be it mentally or physically," Finch said.

Finch has, with the help of personal mentor and national assistant coach Andrew McDonald, spent the past fortnight working on his batting stance after a lean IPL campaign.

"It hasn't been anything huge, just a few steps I generally go to when things haven't been as smooth as I would have liked," he said.
