Funded in partnership between council and a $2.78 million Create NSW grant, the $4.08 million project will be built adjacent to the Singleton Visitor Information Centre, café and existing facilities, in keeping with Townhead Park Master Plan.
And, with the next phase of the children's playground also slated for construction, the new centre will help to realise Townhead Park as a hub for recreation and play, visitors, the arts, and culture.
Council's director organisation and community capacity Vicki Brereton said there had been considerable community input into the design for the arts and culture centre.
"We're keen to open conversations about the potential uses for the space - as well as find a name for the building," she added.
"Townhead Park is transforming as a cultural destination for the arts and creative enterprise, and a place for residents and visitors alike.
"We are very much looking forward to building a space for our community that delivers on our vision for the enhancement of arts and culture activities in Singleton - and that reflects our region's important cultural identity.
"The final design includes more than 200m2 of gallery space, two artists' studios including a wet space and digital space, work room and storage.
"The building will connect to the existing Visitor Information Centre via an entrance court that will also be a space for sculptural artworks and a place for people to meet."
Ms Brereton said it was vital that the community was involved in the use of the space.
"These conversations are really important, and we've tried to make staff available to meet with as many people as possible, taking into consideration COVID-19 requirements," she explained.
"We're also inviting ideas for the name of the building, and you can let us know all your thoughts via an online survey.
"We don't want the concept of arts and culture to put people off.
"We're all participants in arts and culture, and whether you have a burning desire for a retro kitchen appliance exhibition, a showcase of beer labels or a hankering to view the Archibald Prize winning painting, we want to know about it so we can start working on the programs that will run out of the building."
