That's the reasoning behind the Denman Devils' decision to contest the Newcastle and Hunter Community Rugby League competition this season.
But, unlike their Bengalla Hunter Valley Group 21 counterparts Singleton Greyhounds and Greta-Branxton Colts who are also taking part in the new-look format, the club is solely focusing on its under-18s in 2020.
And, that should pay big dividends for the Devils in coming years.
"When all the [Group 21] clubs met to decide on what to do with their seniors and juniors, post coronavirus (COVID-19), we wanted to go ahead with the under-18s," said Paul Benkovic, who's co-coaching the side with son Brady.
"Singleton and Greta-Branxton felt the same way, too.
"We were determined to provide an opportunity for the youngsters.
"So, NSW Rugby League, and in particular Scott Bone and Bert Lowrie, found a comp for us.
"Now, we'll play teams such as Stockton, Cardiff, Kotara and Lakes, along with the Greyhounds and Colts.
"It was important to give the boys something to do while keeping them as active as possible.
"On top of that, we didn't want to lose the guys from the code either.
"For most of them, it's their last season of juniors and a good chance to play with their mates.
"It's also great for their mental wellbeing.
"At the end of the day, they're the future of the club - and we have to look after them.
"Hopefully, they'll return and play grade."
Benkovic admitted the kids were "as keen as mustard" to get on the field again.
"We've assembled a squad of about 19 lads, including a dozen locals," he said.
"Luckily, we have picked up a few boys from the Tigers and Rams along the way.
"It's greatly appreciated [by Denman] that the Aberdeen and Muswellbrook clubs - and their members - could join us in 2020.
"They're a terrific bunch of boys.
"And, extremely talented with the likes of Aberdeen's Tommy Dixon and Josh Emery, Muswellbrook's Scott Wilson and Cooper Morgan, and Denman's Ned Chapman, Jackson Stair, Andrew Parkes and Hunter Ball, to name a few, in the group."
First up, the Devils will tackle Kotara at the Denman Recreational Ground on Saturday, July 18.
"That match coincides with the start of junior league, so it works out well," Benkovic said.
"It's hard to say how we'll go.
"Singleton should be strong, while it is fantastic to see Greta-Branxton back in that age group.
"I just know this year is going to be a good test for the Devils."
