Whether it was organising the cookery section of the Singleton show, assisting with fundraisers for the local Red Cross branch or putting pen to paper for the Singleton Argus Colleen did everything in life with enthusiasm, a sense of fun and a love of her community, her family and friends.
Her funeral will be held at St Andrews, Uniting Church Thursday, June 18 commencing at 11:30am.
She turned 89 on May 3 and despite COVID-19 restrictions enjoyed a birthday cake with her son Lindsay at Alroy Nursing home where she had been living along with her husband of 66 years Ivan.
The couple moved to their longterm home 'Newington' at Whittingham soon after their marriage in March 1954.
A much loved member of the NAA and the NAA Ladies Committee Colleen was a honorary life member of the NAA.
Lindsay said his mother put up a brave fight and remained 'switched on' till the very end organising all of us as per usual.
"She always literally flew about Singleton doing many jobs and volunteering wherever she could," he said.
"And she loved writing columns for the Argus - we have found so many Argus articles it's a true treasure trove of the paper."
We at the Argus have missed Colleen's fabulously quirky croquet reports and her stories each time she visited the office.
Her towering figure running the cookery section at the annual show was another special memory as she chatted with everyone about the entries including some very fine fruit cakes and puddings from a Queensland exhibitor.
Full obituary to come in our newspaper in July.
