Lucas Ocampos, Fernando and Jules Kounde's goals earned a vital win for Julen Lopetegui, whose position as Sevilla coach has been called into question in recent weeks because of the club's shaky form.
Sevilla took the lead two minutes before half-time, with Ocampos finishing Sergio Reguilon's low cross from close range.
Fernando doubled the lead in the 67th minute from close range and Kounde netted the third, which Getafe goalkeeper David Soria should have kept out.
Getafe, who had begun the game in third, dropped to fourth on 42 points from 25 games, one point behind Sevilla.
Jose Bordalas' side had been enjoying an impressive season, beating Ajax 2-0 on Thursday in the Europa League.
Earlier Rodrigo Ely's 91st minute goal earned Alaves a 2-1 Basque derby win and consigned Athletic Bilbao to a 10th consecutive La Liga game without a win.
Raul Garcia opened the scoring for the visitors at Mendizorroza from the edge of the box but Lucas Perez soon levelled from the penalty spot after Aleix Vidal was felled by Yeray Alvarez.
Athletic, who have one foot in the Copa del Rey final following their first-leg win over Granada, were on top but could not make their advantage count.
Ely struck the winner in stoppage time when he reached Edgar's deep inswinging free-kick and slid the ball home, consigning Gaizka Garitano's men to their fourth league defeat running.
