Merton Living general manager Shani Mitchell said the level of care given to those living at home enabled people to regain their independence.

Shani said Merton Home Care can also provide private fee for service for those in the community who are still waiting for package approval.
"Consumers can use their package funds for home visits to provide personal care services, cleaning, gardening or medication assistance for example," she said, adding funds can also be used to purchase equipment to be more independent such as GPS alarms with fall detection.
"Ceiling fans are also able to be purchased with a Home Care Package."
With the Home Care Package, clients can also engage with wellness services such as physiotherapy, Bowen therapy and occupational therapists for mobility assistance.
"Transport for appointments and shopping is also very popular, as well as social outings to stay connected with the community."
Shani said eligibility for the Home Care Package would ensure clients were able to access the full range of Merton services, including attending regular events.
"To be eligible, consumers must have an assessment completed by the Aged Care Assessment Team. Merton Home Care can assist consumers by contacting My Aged Care and placing a referral for you."
Merton Home Care provides all four levels of care packages through the qualified team of support staff and access to allied health professionals.
The levels range from basic care needs including gardening, meal preparation and general home help through to high level care including hygiene.
