South Sydney talisman Sam Burgess is expected to be given until kick off to prove his fitness for Friday's crunch NRL clash against Brisbane.

Burgess is in doubt after aggravating a quad injury during last week's defeat to Canterbury and is expected to be named in the Rabbitohs team list on Tuesday afternoon.

He was restricted to light duties as Souths trained at Redfern Oval, however, has told teammates he wants to play.

After pulling up lame attempting to run down Will Hopoate on Saturday, Burgess admitted he had been told to compete at 80 per cent.

He sat out their previous week's defeat to Melbourne with the same injury and, with the finals three weeks away, the Rabbitohs could elect to rest him to ensure he's at full fitness.

"We've got a couple of boys out already, I think they're going to give him right up until kick off," Souths hooker Damien Cook said.

"I'm pretty sure he'll be named and he's confident he'll play. But Sam would play every week if he could."
