Scott Wallace and his 14-month-old daughter Caroline of Woodberry both saw snow for the first time together on Saturday at Polblue Campground and Picnic Area in the Barrington Tops.

Unfortunately, on Sunday, National Parks and Wildlife and local police closed the Barrington Tops Forest Road between Thunderbolts Lookout on the Gloucester side and Dingo Gate on the Scone side.

However, the father and daughter traveled to the park on Saturday.

"I had friends staying up there and they said there was snow, so we jumped in the car and went up," Mr Wallace said.

"The fact it was both our first time seeing it made it even more special.

"When we got there it started snowing straight on us, so she was a little hesitant at first.

"The snow was five to ten centimetres in some areas.

"It was a great atmosphere. We had a snowball fight with some other people that were around.

"It snowed several times while we were there between 10.30 and 3pm."

Scone's Lourissa McLaurin, 23, woke up early on Sunday to catch sunrise off Tomalla Road in Barrington Tops with three of her friends.

They found a field of snow all to themselves.

"We left from Scone at 4.30. We wanted to get up there before anyone else and we were first up on the track so that was pretty cool," she said.

"I just love that the national park is literally in our backyard.

"We went slow on the trail and we felt safe the whole time."

Jessica Sullivan and Logan Harvey, both 28 of Blackalls Park, were two of the brave souls that camped at Polblue on Saturday night.

They estimated that about 100 other people stayed overnight at the campground.

"It wasn't as cold as we thought it would be. This morning when we woke up inside the car it was 1.2 degrees," Ms Sullivan said.

"We knew there was going to be a big snowfall so we thought we'd drive up there and give it a go. The snow was maybe four or five inches thick.

"There was a few people camping in swags, so I would say they were the brave ones."

Toukley's Kristy West and her 13-year-old daughter Tilly Smith went with eight friends to Polblue on Saturday.

"None of us had seen snow fall before so were lucky because it was bucketing down," Ms West said.
