Avid participants can partake in the fun from 8am every Saturday, starting on August 31.
Merriwa recently celebrated its first year taking part in the global initiative "parkrun".
And, Scone is keen to follow suit.
Council's sports participation officer Nicole Western said parkrun welcomed anyone, of any ability, to a timed 5km run.
"I've done parkruns in England, Newcastle, Wollongong and Merriwa and it's always a supportive, fun event," she said.
"In Merriwa, it starts at Rotary Park on Telfer Street, and goes along the river every Saturday morning.
"It's a beautiful area to run.
"The whole philosophy is a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
"Register and your time is emailed to you, so you can keep track of your progress over different runs.
"This project has been in the works for a number of years and it is great that it is finally at the starting gate in Scone."
This project is sponsored by council's We LIVE Here campaign funded by the Drought Communities Program.
Council also thanks IMB Bank Hunter/Newcastle, Scone Triathlon Club, Scone Gymnastics Club, Scone Touch Football, Scone Junior Rugby League and Scone Little Athletics Club who have all donated to the start-up costs.
BHP has donated a defibrillator to have on location during events.
