Tony Drice opened the first Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop, the Smelly Deli, at Pokolbin Village (2188 Broke Road) in 2004, having identified a lack of cheese offerings in the valley.
It proved so popular that Tony and fellow owner operator Steven Cooper opened a sister store in 2009 at the Hall of Food in Roche Estate (2144 Broke Road, Pokolbin).
Both outlets offer free over-the-counter cheese tastings on a try-before-you-buy basis or for a small fee you can opt for a more structured tasting experience in the cheese room with Smelly's experienced staff.
Those with a sweet tooth don't miss out either with Smelly's list of over 200 delicious gelatos guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
