Ms Wilkins collected her Order of Australia Medal, one of the highest honours available for civilians, at a special ceremony at Government House last month.
She originally found out about the award in January, via a certificate from Governor-General of Australia His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Redt), after being recognised for her service to the community through charitable organisations.
"I was very honoured to receive the Order of Australia Medal," she said.
"I'd like to thank Anne Wilson, of the Berrigan Red Cross, for nominating me for the OAM.
"Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC presented the awards.
"She was very nice and friendly.
"After the formalities, she came over to our little group and had her photo taken with us before going out to mingle with everyone else.
"Afternoon tea on the terrace, which included champagne and prawns, was enjoyable.
"I would also like to thank my daughter Penelope for all of her assistance, as well as her boyfriend Norm for his help, too.
"It'd be remiss not to mention the Hunter Valley News for the coverage they gave me for this occasion."
Ms Wilkins has been involved in many local groups.
However, she is perhaps best known for her time at the Aberdeen-Rouchel Red Cross, where she received an Outstanding Service Award after spending almost 40 years with the institution.
