Two of these selfless people are Teressa Williams and De Patterson, who have assisted St Joseph's Primary School in Merriwa in different roles over several years.
The former is the canteen coordinator, but has gone well beyond her requirements in an attempt to educate and involve the children in her operations.
Nutrition, a healthy diet and even the cost associated with making things are taught to the students, who as a result have a say in the menu items.
She has also helped the school to accomplish a highly commendable 90 per cent health rating.
Ms Patterson has a variety of roles, including working at the uniform shop and helping the school with all operations regarding horse sports.
An interest of hers, she has shared her expertise to the kids and made sure they are able to take part in a variety of events, including the school's major fundraiser, which is the campdraft and fete.
Principal Ashley Borg was keen to praise the pair.
"A school of our size and stature in town requires a hard-working staff, students and parent body in order to thrive and function well," he said.
"We have many volunteers such as Teressa and De, who make the running of the school seamless.
"Volunteers give an excellent morale boost around the school.
"Teressa and De both have terrific attitudes and are excellent advocates for the school; this, in turn, creates an outstanding atmosphere from which students, parents and teachers can thrive in."
He also said they, and in fact anybody who had been in their position for a reasonable amount of time, are extremely difficult to replace and their knowledge is invaluable.
Their impact also goes beyond just what they do, as Mr Borg revealed their efforts allow others to focus on their roles.
"As a principal, knowing that I have reliable parents assisting in various areas of the school definitely allows me to focus on the core areas of schooling, such as reading, writing and mathematics," he said.
