Friday morning could see snow dust the mountains, as the temperature drops to four degrees Celsius, before plummeting to a low of just one degrees by the weekend.
The possibility of snow will be dependent on moisture and could instead results in showers for the Tops.
A safety warning has been issued for snow chasers preparing to wake up early and head to the national park.

National Parks and Wildlife advise motorists to check road closures and conditions before leaving the two entry points of Gloucester and Scone.
Last winter several two-wheel drive vehicles became stuck in the national park. Barrington Tops roads are open to 4WDs only during snow events.
Motorists should exercise extreme caution as the narrow, unsealed road is slippery.
Temperatures have dropped across the Hunter this week, with night-time lows of five degrees forecast for the weekend in the city and a crisp four degrees in the valley.

Parks and Wildlife also advises:
- Leave the two-wheel-drive at home - four-wheel-drives are best suited for driving in snow and ice conditions
- Leave plenty of time for the return trip in daylight hours: travel time is up to 1.5 hours from Gloucester or Scone
- Check weather and road conditions before you leave home and again before you leave Scone or Gloucester
- Pack additional warm clothing and extra food and water
- Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back.
