He is one of just seven people across the state to receive a grant from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, with Mr Austin's being to the tune of $20,000.
The main project involves building 400 new show pens for the poultry pavilion in Merriwa.
However he intends to diversify the remaining money by spending it on local institutions who need extra equipment.
"I have allocated some to go towards Merriwa Central School and Coolah Central School to set up the right resources for them to put in place, and some sort of poultry breeding program so they can participate in things like local shows," he said.
"I also had some money allocated towards Merriwa Gummun Place Hostel to give them a pen and some chooks as a form of some therapy, and it's something the residents can take care of.
"I've seen the idea from a few other places and it seems to work pretty well so that was my idea of getting the community involved a bit more in the project."
Mr Austin revealed he has been hoping to make these kinds of improvements since 2013, when he was originally approached by the Merriwa Show Society to revive their poultry section that had been out of action for approximately 30 years.
Since then they have built almost 200 pens from mostly recycled materials, and this latest batch of funds will vastly improve the show further.
It's been an extraordinary effort from the young man to achieve this much for his local area and the community is sure to be thankful for his efforts.
