Deemed the best in a field of three, she was thrilled to have received the honour at the Muswellbrook Showground on Saturday and was given a huge roar by the crowd.
The junior showgirl award was also handed out and 13-year-old Grace Inder was the jubilant recipient on that occasion, in a strong field that included nine contestants in total.
Neither of them could wipe the smiles off their faces and took time to speak about how they were feeling.
"It was pretty exciting, I wasn't expecting it because I had some tough competition, both girls were really nice and very accomplished," Ms Carter said.
Having recently graduated university with a degree in agribusiness, the 23-year-old she believed this would be the perfect way to slot back into the local community.
Grace, however admitted that sibling rivalry played a bit of a part in deciding to throw her hat into the ring.
"My sister was [competing] and I normally try whatever she does so I thought I'd give it a go," she said.
"But, it's a really good opportunity and it's good for going for jobs so you can get used to speaking and things like that."
Ms Carter also firmly believes it opens doors and should be something for all young girls to consider trying at future shows.
"It's a load of fun, you meet heaps of people and network lots and really it's just good fun to be involved in," she said.
They will remain the current Showgirls for the next 12 months, but it's an achievement they can carry with them for a lot longer than that and one they're sure to look back fondly upon throughout their life.
