Greater Northern Tigers women stick to game plan - and register 16-6 victory over Northern Rivers in CRL Country Championships

THE Greater Northern Tigers women stuck to their game plan and won their CRL Country Championships clash with the Northern Rivers Titans in Armidale on Saturday.

The Mick Schmiedel-coached Tigers - which included Grace Gallen (Scone), Lucy Prudden (Murrurundi), Shae Pemberton (Muswellbrook), Jessyca Morgan (Merriwa), Brooke Davis (Greta Branxton), Taylah Blackadder (Merriwa) and Gaynor Blackadder (Merriwa) in its ranks - won 16-6 at Bellevue Oval after leading 4-0 at the break.

Alyce Walsh, Joan O'Leary and little replacement hooker Taylah Blackadder crossed for tries in the team's first scalp in the women's tackle format.

"That was a good result, if you stick to plan and execute you usually get a result," Schmiedel said.

"They did that.

"We also talked about keeping our passes short against a big side and they did that, too.

"Unfortunately, we'll probably miss out on a semi-final spot on for and against.

"But, the girls have set a platform now.

"We've got something to build on and, hopefully, all these girls will have a run next year."

Merriwa's Jessyca Morgan led the Tigers so well up front.

"She was outstanding," Schmiedel said.

"Joan O'Leary, at halfback, pushed us around well and little Taylah scored a good try, too."

He also though teenage fullback Taneika Landsborough was safe at the back and defused some tense situation with some good takes.

"She's only turned 18," he said.

"She just knows where to be."
