The upgrades to the highway will enhance safety, traffic flow and travel times by providing overtaking opportunities in both directions as well as five-metre clear zones and greater freight access.
Improvements will be made to a two-kilometre section of highway near Ogilvies Hill and a four-kilometre section between Bowmans Crossing and Saddlers Creek at Winery Hill.
Work includes road rebuilding, upgrading safety barriers, shoulder widening and drainage improvements.
It will start on Monday, March 18, and be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.
For the safety of workers and motorists, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place during work hours.
The speed limit will be raised to 60km/h outside work hours but the lane closures will remain in place.
Travel time delays may be significant, with journeys expected to take up to an additional 15 minutes between Jerrys Plains and Denman during some stages of work.
The upgrades are expected to be completed by late 2020.
In addition to these upgrades at Ogilvies Hill and Winery Hill, work will soon start on a safety upgrade at Whittingham, which will add up to an additional 10 minutes to travel time on the Golden Highway until early 2020.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists for their patience while these upgrades are being carried out along the Golden Highway.
