Strong winds swept the dust band over from drought-stricken towns further west.
It made its way east, creating an orange tinge in the sky.
A number of keen photographers, including some from Muswellbrook, Singleton and Scone, commented on social media that the images they captured didn’t do the orange sky justice.
Those outside the Hunter, even all the way to Queensland, were also sharing how different everything looked where they were.
The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting the dust to clear out in the afternoon.
