Hemsworth, Helen Reddy and Game of Thrones production designer Deborah Riley were among the honourees at the event where more than 300 guests dined on Australian fare prepared by celebrity chef Curtis Stone.
Hemsworth's new bride, American chart-topper Miley Cyrus, did not walk the red carpet but was rumoured to have slipped inside the event to watch her Melbourne-born husband receive his excellence in film award.
"It was really a beautiful day with our immediate family and a couple of close friends," said Hemsworth, describing last month's nuptials.
"It's wonderful we've been together for the better part of 10 years.
"It doesn't feel like a lot has changed one one hand and in the other hand it does.
"It's all great and I'm loving it."
Hemsworth said he did not have any special Australian touches like lamingtons or Vegemite at the wedding held at the couple's Nashville home just before Christmas.
But he did make sure Vegemite was on the post-wedding breakfast menu.
"I definitely had it the next morning," he said.
Other celebrities attending the gala included Jamie Lee Curtis, Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey, Lara Bingle-Worthington and the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer.
