The match between the two undefeated teams in the competition promised plenty but the Maitland batsman grabbed the upper-hand early and the side didn’t relinquish it.
The hosts posted a very healthy 9-309 with Josh Tuckwell and Ricky Dent getting them off to a flier making 78 before Dent was out for 29.
Tuckwell took full-toll on the Upper Hunter bowlers, hitting half a dozen sixes and five fours in his inning of 73.
The momentum continued with Jarrod Moxey hitting eight fours in a quick-fire 37 and Daniel Foster smashing three sixes and four boundaries in his 44.
Thornton teammates Dan Willis and Brent Dawes completed the run fest scoring 41 and 35 respectively at the end of the innings.
Upper Hunter’s run chase got off to a disastrous start with openers Jake Duffin and Jake Teague both run out for ducks.
No.4 Hayden Quinlivan was also dismissed without scoring, caught behind by Moxey off the bowling of Alex Seamer.
Upper Hunter slumped to 3-4 and never recovered despite the efforts of No.3 Broque Smith who made 69 before being caught by Dan Willis off Seamer.
Seamer finished with 3-42, Dawes took 2-38 and Willis, Dent and Josh Moxey picked up a wicket each as Upper Hunter was all out for 174.
