The organisation will collect a donation of $5876 to assist them in purchasing equipment, which will enhance the quality of meeting facilities on site and assist with the manufacturing of products.
“I am delighted to announce that $5876 will help the Merriwa Men’s Shed to purchase much-needed equipment,” Mr Johnsen said.
“A small grant like this helps them become more sustainable in terms of their financial sustainability to do more work and generate funds themselves.
“So, it’s a little bit of a hand and they’re doing a fantastic job and it’s very pleasing to be able to help.”
The idea was first raised last year when he travelled to the town with NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean to discuss quad bike safety and Mr Johnsen spoke to several members of the group.
Committee member Stephen Gowlland expressed his gratitude for the injection of funds and praised the Upper Hunter MP for his work.
“On behalf of the Merriwa Men’s Shed we sincerely thank Michael for his representations to Minister Tanya Davies on our behalf for this donation,” he said.
“We are very appreciative of this grant as it will greatly benefit the members of the Merriwa Men’s Shed and the community.”
