From entertainment and roving performers to market stalls and, of course, Santa Claus in his very own grotto, there was something for everyone at the event that has become the unofficial launch of the festive season.

And, this year was extra special with the official opening of the $2.8 million architecturally-designed Riverside Park.

Funded in part by contributions from Bulga Coal under a Voluntary Planning Agreement, Singleton mayor Sue Moore said it was fantastic to see the playground already being put to good use.

The park boasts multi-storey slides from two architectural towers, a sky bridge, water play, rock climbing and even WIFI bins.

The all-new Riverside kiosk also opened, completing the all-round experience for people of all ages.

“Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and I’m very proud that council has delivered this fantastic project in time for the summer holidays,” Cr Moore said. 

“What better way to celebrate than with a party on John Street?

“Christmas on John Street is about bringing everyone together to rejoice in the spirit of our community, and it was fitting to unveil our newest facility at the biggest event on our calendar.

“Whether it’s children on jumping castles or people of all ages marvelling at the fireworks, I never get tired of seeing the smiles on people’s faces.”

General manager Jason Linnane said the event was a wonderful re-enforcement of the purpose of local government to bring people together to create community.

“Many hours of planning through to a lot of hard work on the night has gone into hosting Christmas on John Street, and it’s worth it when you see so many people out having a great time,” he said.

“But, while it might be Christmas, we haven’t put our feet up just yet – preparations are already underway for our newest event, Twilight, on January 25, as a curtain raiser for Australia Day.

“I encourage everyone to pencil it in your diary for next year and look forward to seeing you there.”
