Taggart scored both goals in Brisbane's 2-0 A-League win over Melbourne City on Saturday to take his tally to five goals in as many matches this season for the Roar.

The 25-year-old's form has led to speculation he could be named when Arnold finalises his selections next month for the Socceroos' Asian Cup defence in January.

Taggart hasn't featured in the national team set-up for more than four years but holds an edge over his striking rivals in that he is playing - and scoring - regularly.

The No.9 role for Australia appears to be the most unsettled with Arnold's style of play not necessarily suiting mainstay Tomi Juric.

Cyprus-based Apostolos Giannou scored in Arnold's first game in charge against Kuwait but was overlooked for the recent friendlies against South Korea and Lebanon.

Former Roar striker Jamie Maclaren got the start up front against the Koreans and largely failed to impress while Juric played 69 minutes in the 3-0 win over Lebanon but failed to find the net.

Taggart knows an opportunity exists but understands it will take more than just one or two good performances to earn a recall.

"To get into the squad and start getting back into the Socceroos you need to make sure you're performing every single week, it can't just be one good game here and there and one goal here and there," he said.

"I'm not going to be one of those people that says 'I should be in the Socceroos' because I don't agree with that.

"The squad deserves a lot more respect than that."

Taggart was in the stands for Australia's 1-1 draw with Korea in Brisbane.

While he hasn't spoken to Arnold personally, Taggart can sense a positive atmosphere within the Socceroos which he is excited about.

"They looked very attacking, very structured and it was nice to watch," the 2014 World Cup squad member said.

"I'm sure any Australian playing in that side would enjoy playing under him.

"Obviously I've never had Arnie but I've got a lot of mates who have and everyone speaks the world of him."
