Presented in partnership with Hunter Valley Operations, Blast delivered on its promise for fun and free family entertainment as people of all ages took aim for laser tag, scored a goal in bubble soccer, soared to new heights with rock climbing, climbed aboard a camel and bounced away the day in an array of jumping castles.

The day kicked off with a free Zumba warm-up and the Colour Run, the only ticketed activity to raise money for anti-bullying programs for Singleton school students.

Council general manager Jason Linnane said it was great to see so many people coming together to try something new.

“It may not have been pretty, but I can now say I’ve had a go at Zumba and I was happy to see so many people doing it along with me,” he said.

“Council has taken a really proactive approach to community events and we’ve had great success with new evening events such as Firelight.

“Blast was something different again, offering a whole day of heap of  and fun activities that everyone could come along and enjoy.

“With lots of free entertainment, food trucks, ice cream vans and a sausage sizzle, it was a great day out for families to come along with their kids and enjoy without the worry of how much it would cost.

“Everyone I saw was laughing and having a great time - and that’s what it’s all about.”

Mr Linnane said he was particularly pleased with the success of the event because the idea for the Colour Run came from the young people at Singleton Youth Venue.

“Council exists because of our community, and Blast is a fantastic example of how we are listening to the people in Singleton to deliver what is important to them,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing even more people turn out for Christmas on John Street on Friday, December 7, when our community spirit will turn to festive spirit in the countdown to Christmas.”
