The match of the round was expected to be a close affair, however the league leaders had other ideas.
While the two sides went try for try early on, via Taylah Blackadder (Merriwa) and Samantha Elphick (Scone), the Magpies enjoyed a 14-4 lead at half-time when Shae Blackadder and Gaynor Blackadder added their names to the list.
A double to Jessyca Morgan, and four-pointers to Shae Blackadder and Casey Payne, plus a further two Morgan goals, in the second period handed the Thoroughbreds their first loss of the season.
Merriwa meets long-time rivals Muswellbrook Ramettes at Scone Park on November 23, while Scone prepares to tackle the Murrurundi Mavettes, another team yet to taste defeat in 2018.
