Singleton mayor Sue Moore, councillors Sarah Lukeman and Tony Jarrett, and general manager Jason Linnane are representing the organisation at the Local Government NSW annual conference in Albury this week.

Cr Moore said she was pleased the conference supported Singleton’s amendment to Liverpool Council’s motion for changes to train timetables to include regional areas, with a resolution that:

Local Government NSW contacts Transport NSW and advocates on behalf of councils for the following changes to the train timetables:

* More express services;

* More frequent and better quality services; and

* More services to growth and regional areas.

“The need for more passenger train services has long been an issue for Singleton,” Cr Moore said.

“And, I’m really happy there was an opportunity to enlist the support of local government across the state to continue to keep the issue on the boil with TransportNSW.

“The Local Government NSW annual conference is a great opportunity to network with other councils throughout NSW and identify common issues that we can all work on together.

“While Liverpool Council’s circumstances are different to Singleton, it shows that public transport is clearly a major issue for all communities and train timetables in particular are affecting people in a number of local government areas.

“It’s a great outcome that as a result of this resolution, Local Government NSW will now complement our ongoing discussions with TransportNSW to facilitate additional passenger rail services in Singleton, to better connect with the Lower Hunter and beyond.”
