The winner’s entry won the guaranteed $200,000 first prize in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1131, drawn on Friday, September 21.
As well as winning the guaranteed booty, he also picked up a consolation prize, which bolstered his total windfall to $201,000.
When a NSW Lotteries official contacted the winner to confirm his prize, the Singleton farmer revealed the win had come at the perfect time for him.
“It’s brilliant! It cheered my day up, as you can imagine,” he laughed.
“We’ve been going through the drought and things are a bit tough at the moment, so the win will be a godsend.
“I’ve been buying hay for the animals and things are triple the price, so it will be very good.
“It has come at a great time.
“Someone up there likes us.
“We’ve been hanging in there, but it is great we’ve now got $200,000 kicking around.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Lucky Lotteries windfall, the grateful winner revealed it would provide much-needed funds to support his drought-ridden farm.
“We raise cattle for the markets and it has been tough, as a lot of our dams have been drying up,” he explained.
“We are going to get a water bore and that can be expensive, so this will go towards things like that.
“It’s a great win.
“We’ll be using the money for all that and making our life a little less stressful.
“We are just like anyone who wins money really – everyone can use it towards something.
“But, up here, in the drought, it has come at a great time.
“It will help us to do things we needed to do.
“We were thinking about getting government grants, but now we don’t need to.
“It’s absolutely brilliant.
“We’ve been looking at a new water tank and a water bore, so we will be implementing a lot of water-saving devices that we’ve had in mind.
“It will basically be our own drought relief.”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning two-number entry from Singleton Discount Drug Store in John Street.
Singleton Discount Drug Store lotteries manager Teymara Dixon said she was thrilled to have sold the store’s first major prize win in seven years.
“We’ve sold a few winning entries in the past, but this is the first since I’ve been here,” she exclaimed.
“So, I am so thrilled to have sold a winning entry.
“It is just fantastic for our customer and a really great feeling knowing it will go to someone who needs it.
“Congratulations to our winner.
“We wish them all the best.”
