Upper Hunter Golf Day, formerly known as the Black Coal Cup, is raising money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) later this month.
The competition will take place at the Muswellbrook RSL Golf Club on August 24 and, unlike previous years, local businesses and members of the public can register a team.
The move is aimed to increase participation and produce more money for the rescue service, which has helped save many lives in the area.
The course will be full of golfing enthusiasts and people there for a bit of fun.
Organiser Danny Eather said the move to extend the day to the broader community was paying dividends.
“Changing it to the Upper Hunter Golf Day was just a way to make sure that everyone felt part of it; that (let them know) they could be a part of it; and that’s paid off with the results,” he said.
“In terms of registration we’ve got 48 teams confirmed for the event, so it’s going to be a big, big day.”
Businesses can also get involved with a sponsorship package, which gets them a designated hole to promote their products and services, although they’ll need to get in quick as there’s only a couple left.
A commemorative gift, entertainment and a barbecue lunch will also be provided on the day, which is sure to improve the moods of anyone who’s been splicing them since 8am.
Mr Eather praised the input of the new golf club owners, and said the injection of different thoughts and suggestions would make the tournament better than ever.
“It’s all the coming together well, with some new and refreshed ideas for the event,” he said.
“So, it’s quite a positive thing and and an exciting time for everyone involved.”
Despite the lightheartedness of the day, he acknowledges that it won’t all be fun and games, saying that there will still be some competitive beasts on the course.
“We’re quite fortunate in the Upper Hunter that everyone likes their sporting events,” Mr Eather said.
“And, while it is for charity, they like a bit of pride and bragging rights, so I’m sure there’ll be some tough competition.”
