The fixture, at Ferodale Park in Medowie, saw players from the GE Women’s competition form Central Coast, Hunter and Newcastle representative teams and play each other in a round robin tournament.
Newcastle won the first game of the day against Central Coast. Final score was 3.6 (24) to 1.6 (12).
Hunter staged a late comeback to overcome Central Coast 3.4 (22) to 3.1 (19) in the second game of the day.
Newcastle got off to a slow start against Hunter in the third game but at half time held the lead. The squad, captained by Kate Handley (Newcastle City Novas) and Amy Pittman (Warners Bay), came out guns blazing in the second half and continued to dominate.
The final score was 0.8 (32) to 0.2 (8).
Kate Holland from the Nelson Bay Marlins captained the Hunter team. Emily Bohan (Wyong Lakes) led the Central Coast.
All three matches consisted of two 25-minute halves.
The winner’s trophy is awarded on a win-loss record basis. If there are tied results the title will go to the team level on points but with the better for-and-against record.
The challenge came after BDAFL’s women’s round was played at Tulkaba Park last Saturday. The GE Women’s competition had a general bye this weekend.
