However, that’s what approximately 200 people did on Saturday when Merriwa launched its inaugural parkrun.
The free, weekly 5km walking/running phenomenon attracted not only keen locals but numerous like-minded athletes from as far as Sydney, Singleton, Tamworth and Gunnedah.
And, event director Matthew West boasted a grin from ear-to-ear.
“Merriwa is the 31st of 40 new parkruns to launch by August 2018, thanks to Medibank’s Free + Active program,” he said.
“So, we’re thrilled to have between 100 and 200 here today.
“Singleton has hosted one for a few years now, but this is the first in the Upper Hunter Shire.
“I believe Scone will follow in our footsteps soon.
“But, we’ll be at Rotary Park from 8am every Saturday now.”
